can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?

i didn't grow up on Sesame Street or on any TV program for that matter. boohoo, i wasn't allowed to watch TV for most part of my childhood...

hell, i didn't know that Elmo is supposed to be the show's most popular/favorite character (is he?), and that he has a sweet, cutesy voice!

and i didn't know, till last week while watching the Oprah Winfrey Show, that a big, African-American 40-something year old guy named Kevin Clash, is the Muppeteer behind red, furry, cuddly Elmo.

but i bet you also didn't know that, huh?

or did you?

darn.

I've also seen that Oprah Show. And I've known the man behind Elmo even before that. I just can't remember now which show. We have the Tickle Me Elmo doll and my two youngest son used to like it. :)

I was already 10 or 11 I think, when they started showing Sesame Street in the local channels, but that didn't stop me from watching the show, hehe.

The original cast then were Ernie and Bert (There were even rumors that they were gay), Big Bird, Oscar the grouch, Mr. Snufflelufugus (not sure if I got the spelling right), and of course, Kermit D. Frog.

BTW, did you know that Hollywood star Morgan Freeman started his career in the Sesame street spin-off, The Electric Company? :-)

When I was very little I'd dreamt of watching this show. I always said, I wanna be a BIG BIRD - its entertaining for the kids I guess but now that I have grown, I didn't find BIG BIRD really a BIRD, I thought BB is a DUCK.

Well thanks for the infos. How cool. Sesame Street is always going to be for kids, no matter what/who behind its muppet.

I wish I was an ELMO. He talks too much, isn't he?

did you know that Mr. Snuffalufagus was an anteater??? there was an episode (daw) where they were doing the alphabet and another character said "A for Anteater" and he was like... "like me!".

that totally debunked my childhood. all along i was decieved into thinking he was a mammoth.

K> haha, i nearly fell off my seat...so you wanted to be Big Bird, huh? yes, he actually looks like a duck, though they belong in the same family anyway.

haha, i don't know if Elmo IS talkative. are you?

haha, i'm sure that must have been really a blow, knowing the truth about Ms. Snuffalufagus...

While Sesame street was for beginners, the Electric Company was for its part, an advanced version for older kids, it was also produced by Jim Henson.

And Morgan Freeman wasn't just a voice, he was one of the human characters in the show, that's why I can still remember him when he went on to the big screen. :-)

I really don't know that. I used to watch Sesame Street before but when I was a bit older I thought it was a stupid show.

I was in school when Sesame Street was on. It played at 11:00 in the morning. However, whenever there was a holiday or I was sick, I might watch it. It never really appealed to me - there wasn’t a whole lot of learning going on (I preferred The Electric Company). Although, at 10:30, they used to play Mr. Dressup (which I liked) and at 10:15, The Friendly Giant (another good show). At noon, when I would be home for lunch, I would watch Spiderman.
