binondo trip primer

hehe. would you have noticed if i didn't encircle it?

of course you did...you should have. *evil eye*

that is posted on the toilet door of Grand House eatery in Estero, Ongpin. yes, the famous estero, with its unbeatable ambience and excellent location - right by the Ongpin creek, or is it canal?

it was one of the itinerary of my first, real chinatown trip last saturday, organized by Eric of Byahilo, a fellow Bacolodnon and La Sallian, together with Ms. Ajay of Writings on the Wall, who works in the same company as i do.

suffice to say, i felt like a certified blogger, having met these two, popular, talented and blogosphere-seasoned persons (whew, i really thought long and hard for those descriptions)!

food trip was the main goal, and that we somehow accomplished despite the uncooperative weather (read: rain, rain, rain). but what made me happiest?

i finally learned how to use the LRT.

and now, i find no excuse in not going to Binondo whenever i feel like.

Hi Vin. You can get down at LRT EDSA station, which connects to MRT and from there choose your location. What I like are the ramps which connect to the malls. Get down at MRT Ayala station which is just a few walks away from SM Makti and Rustans, or the Shaw Blvd. station which connects to the EDSA Shang Mall. Cubao (Araneta Center) is linked to Gateway Mall. Traffic-free di ba?

Nice being with you last Saturday. Sa uulitin:) -ajay

You went to Chinatown last Saturday? Cool, wish I could've joined you. It's just a few minutes walk from my place.

Actually it is very hard to pick out transposed letters because our brain sees the word as a symbol not as a collection of letters.

Studies have shown that you can read jumbled up words as quickly as if they were correctly spelled, so long as (1) they have all the right letters, (2) they start and end with the correct letter.

You can have a look here. The title and first paragraph contain jumbled up words. If you are proficient in English (and I am pretty sure you are), you should have no difficulty reading it.

I always enjoy going to Binondo/Chinatown.

When I was about seven or eight, I'd go with my father to his office (F. Torres near Recto) on Saturdays and would sneak out to gallivant on my own in Ongpin. My favorite place to visit was the pet shop with a huge tank of various elaborately-colored salt water fish. The kindly proprietress would offer me a stool where I could just sit in front of it for hours on end while I munched on ampao, peanut brittle candy or newly-baked mini hopias I bought nearby.

AJAY> i tried doing that yesterday, going to megamall! take the LRT going to edsa, then MRT to Shaw Blvd. kaya lang umulan, so i took a cab going to the ayala station na lang and took it from there. quite an accomplishment for me na rin, hehe!

SNGLGUY> hindi naman po sosyal...di lang talaga ako magala. uy, sayang, sana we could get together next time! do you have an email address ba?
