wow! sarap! yan na lang padala ko sa friend ko. hehe. speaking of Bacolod, besides calea cakes and the chicken bacolod, what are other specialties of Bacolod?

At 6:14 PM, June 28, 2006, Blogger vina said...

hay naku, andami! may NAPOLEONES, BUTTERSCOTCH (which Señor Enrique swears by), TARTS, the usual BARQUILLOS and PIAYA, and almost everything sweet! your friend, he/she is from bacolod? alam niya yun!

outside of bacolod, there's GUAPPLE PIE of silay (i have a post about it in the May or April archives).

vina, ka-evil sa iho harharhar, ginapa-hisa mo mga taga-manila sang cake mo!! i just wish may outlet sila diri!! well... as the say, absence makes the heart grow fonder, so being in bacolod only makes the place special!

i'm going home this oct! so yumee semifreddo and ice cream pie are all waiting for me!

At 11:07 AM, June 29, 2006, Blogger vina said...

hehe JULSITOS, gina-palaway ko gid sila. but my officemates are well-fed. so far, they've already tasted calea's blueberry and oreo cheesecakes, black sambo, and that choco cake, aside from the usual bongbong's/virgie's goodies.

i haven't tried yng semifreddo and ice cream pie, and i'm going home on october, too, so i'm putting that on my list!

At 12:08 PM, June 29, 2006, Blogger E. S. de Montemayor said...

so what ano ang rating sang mga officemates mo? amaze ba sila sang quality sang cakes sang isa ka provincial pastry shop? tell! tell!

ang natilawan ko so far there are:

vanilla-chocolate semifreddo - delectable but can use more gussing up

ice cream pie - vanilla ice cream on a bed of chewy peanut-butter crust and drizzled with hot fudge on top

rum raisin pie - a deep dish of raisins, nuts, (bread pudding?) served warm with vanilla ice cream on top

best part is: all cakes are P45!! I ordered one time the rum raisin pie + vanilla milkshake and it costed me only P90!! Where in Manila can you find a high quality cake + drink for only P90! Starbucks pa lang, kulang na!

vina, pahabol ha?

another dessert you should try is their Tiramisu. Too big that I wasn't able to finish it all by myself. and try their Cream Puffs (ice cream filled profiteroles laid on a bed of rum-based sauce and drenched with hot fudge on top). yumeee! i hope napalaway kita!

cheers!

JULSITOS, siyempre mareklamo pa sila, eh libre? haha, they love it siyempre. lalo na ang blueberry cheesecake. sikat ang bacolod food sa office...lately, i've been bringing longganiza, since namit man ang chorizo naton di ba?

hmmm...i haven't tried any of those you mentioned! sh*t, i'm doing double time when i go home on october, even if it means staying hours in the shop!!

At 2:01 PM, June 29, 2006, Blogger vina said...

hehe, TIN, i hope your friend doesn't forget about it. for the napoleones, Roli's is the best.

vina, kahit ala masyado historical sites ang bacolod, foodtrip is our big come-on. mmm... bacolod chorizo... our manug-luto sa balay has a butcher friend sa mercado sang burgos where she calls her when we want to order fresh chorizo yumyum... best way to cook it is to skewer them, and grill them until tigi. nice thing about bacolod is that most foods are home-made just like the chorizos, desserts and puto manapla.

as for calea, you'll be surprised na nainvade na ato sang mga Kors! Kors as in Koreans. In any one time, you'll see these anime-like characters eating and chilling inside Calea.

At 4:45 PM, June 29, 2006, Blogger vina said...

i totally agree with you! delicious AND cheap food is our star! i'm just so proud of our cuisine/delicacies, and obviously, you are, too!

for the chorizo, we just cook it in water. may kilala rin si mama who makes the chorizos himself.

haha, those anime-like koreans are really everywhere noh?
