thorn. damien thorn.

ahem.

aside from superman, THIS is actually what i'm looking forward to. yeah, yeah, i love scary movies.

opening on June 6, 2006 (06/06/06), Omen 666 is a remake of the 1976 anti-christ themed horror classic The Omen starring Gregory Peck. the original spawned 3 sequels, with the first two tackling the rise and fall of the original anti-christ Damien Thorn. the last one, entitled The Awakening, was already about Damien's offspring named Delia, and was the only Omen movie i did not bother watching.

in particular, i liked Omen 1 & 2 the best, mainly because the young Damien Thorn was portrayed as a charming, confused and torn character. there was actually a moving scene in Omen 2 when Damien, who was already in military school, finally confirmed to himself that he was indeed the anti-christ. upon seeing the mark of the beast on his scalp, he weeped and actually asked, "Why me?".

that said, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be just another mediocre remake. i actually saw the trailer yesterday and i noticed right away that the child portraying Damien Thorn looked dead-on obviously creepy. think The Ring Hollywood version starring Naomi Watts and that dead-on obviously creepy kid. one workd. B-O-R-I-N-G.

i've already contracted my sister, Debbie, and her best friend/my adopted sibling, April, to watch the movie with me - you know, just in case i need to squeeze someone's hand during, ah, tense moments...

I'm not sure if this remake will be any better than the 76 original. That movie has become quite a classic and has gained quite a following (including me) ever since it was released.

I still recall the first time it was shown in the theaters back in 76, almost everyone screamed at the decapitation scene, hehe. :-)

Know what? I blogged about this movie and other remakes just last month... or was it the other month? Anyways, you can check it out if you want. :-)

just saw the trailer last weekend, while watching Davinci Code. It looks to be interesting, but I wonder if it's going to be as scary as the first versions? Those kept me up at night, and made me check all my boyfriend's scalp surrepticiously :-)

HI, SNGLGUY! oo nga, i have a feeling it won't be as good as the original. i'll watch it just the same.

how old were you in 1976 when The Omen hit the theaters? you seem to remember it vividly, hehe.

HI, JASE! mark your calendar! June 6, 2006 (ayokong isulat ang
digits...takot ako...)

YUR, i know what you mean. it's always great to have someone with you when watching scary movies. when i was new here in manila, i watched The Ring (the original Japanese movie) by my lonesome. ang hirap! i was always near to grabbing the arm nung katabi ko!

HI, JMOM! i guess we'll just have to watch it to find out! you know what, i did that too - checking the scalp. my scalp!

HELLO CHAS. yes, it is a remake. i already watched Silent Hill. mmmm, i didn't quite like it, though. wasn't scary enough for me. in fact, i found it a bit funny and ridiculous, hehe.

You noticed the trend nowadays? Take a cult- classic horror thriller and make a new film out of them-- Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amytiville, etc. and now this.

The common factor of all the previous ones are these: They cannot match the original and turned out to be mediocre copies of the first. Which is a pity having all the technology they got now.

I'm crossing my fingers invertedly that this one is a worthy successor to the 1978 classic.
