round and round

and back and forth.

that's what we just did for lunch at the Spiral Restaurant of Hotel Philippine Plaza (formerly Westin).

once you enter the hotel lobby, you will not miss the loooong and wide spiral staircase leading down to the restaurant. it's right smack at the center.

you could use that and just watch your step, which we did, or you could use the elevator located near the hotel reception area, which we only did when we left the place - because we only knew about it after all has been said, eaten and done.

oh, it was love at first sight, alright. as the receptionist led our starry-eyed and gushing group through the winding buffet stations ("WOW. is that the dessert station?") to our reserved area, we knew we have found our perfect match. sorry, market cafe. so sorry.

at first, we didn't know where to start. but then we settled for the japanese and salad section first - a rather obvious choice. ("Lin, look at the oyster station! there's crab! market cafe does not have crab!")

and so we ate, and we talked, and we laughed, then we ate some more... ("Lin, they have Korean!")

but that was just means to the ultimate end.

and by all means, we had to have these before we breached our alloted lunchbreak (yes, we're law-abiding officers).

yuMMy, sugar free desserts!

needless to say, we were full, we were happy, we were late.

all throughout the afternoon, there was nothing else we could talk about but that. we were still starry-eyed and gushing.

oh we ARE going back. DEFINITELY.

and next time, we'll eat on a saturday.

@ Yuri's question: it was bought by another chain so westin is now Hotel Philippines Plaza. I forgot the name of the chain though :)

like you I go straight to the Japanese corner on buffets. love it!

hi YURI! duke's right. if i'm not mistaken, the hotel is now owned by the Sofitel group.

you've been gone for too long YUR! uwi ka na dito!

hi EGODDESS! thanks for dropping by. of course naman, i'll link you up.

hello DUKE! how's your airport na? di ba nasunog ang sa cargo area?

the japanese corner is the easiest way to start a buffet, noh?

aww. why did you have to go during lunch time on a wednesday? super bitin yun. But then that's better so you will not gorge on all the food. I've been trying to avoid hotel buffets but I could try this one, one of these days.

Tip: you should also try HEAT in Edsa hang pero ang layo no? - ajay

hi AJ, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision lang kasi. we all just wanted to eat out and Spiral came up. bitin talaga! i missed out on a lot of food, including the dessert! i only got to eat - correction: i only got to shove down my throat some tiramisu and ice cream.

i still haven't tried Heat. would love to, of course. but only when i'm in the vicinity.

eeey, SIONGE, thanks for dropping by as well. the chocolate fountains were just superb. in fact, everything about the restaurant was fantastic.

i'll bring you along, but kanya-kanya tayo ha? hahaha, kuripot...

Matagal na talaga akong hindi nakauwi... Di ko alam na naging iba na ang pangalan ng Westin. Dito rin sa Singapore, yung westin hotel ginawa na ring Swissotel. Siguro binenta na ang westin?

anyway, those looked like a real mouthful there... Once in a while it doesn't hurt to give up to some food lust. hehehe.

yuhuuuuu SNGLGUY, when you say eons ago, mga ilang taon na yun? how old/young were you then? how old are you now?

hehe, in case you still haven't noticed, i love picking on your age, though it's still a mystery to me...

hello REY, thank you for dropping by! malamang, the westin owners have gone belly-up, hehe.

when was the last time you came home, ba? i'm sure you have a lot of catching up to do here.

Talaga, hindi na Westin ang pangalan nya?

Bilib ako sa choices ng buffet dyan ah. Sarap!

hindi na po siya westin, kuya WATSON.

everything about the restaurant is great! i think it has the most extensive selection so far, compared to the other hotels offering the same concept of buffet stations. plus, the food really is just delicious.
